Lightning Talk about ProductTransparency at the 25C3

Dec 29 2008

I just gave a very short talk about ProductTransparency at the 25C3 in Berlin and got already some nice feedback. Many thanks! The slides can be found here and the video will be online soon, too.

  1. A friend of mine and me have similar ideas. We focussed more on products in supermarkets and fairness (fair trade, warnings against hidden price increases, pseudo bio-labels, dangerous ingredients e.g. in Coce Zero etc.)
Anyway, if you want to have more people in the boat, you should set up a forum or a wiki to create a platform on which we can exchange ideas. The comment function of a blog is not really the best thing here.

  2. I completely agree with you and it is planned to set up a mailing list soon – I just am very busy currently. I would be happy to get your input and your help.

  3. I just saw the 25C3 presentation and I think this project is a very very good idea. Very good that you focus on ontology and are looking at the legal issues from the start. Looking forward to where this might lead. :-)

  4. Many thanks for the feedback! Stay tuned! :)

  5. Braindump of various random things: Data change history, change log, data integrity, consistency, accountability, verification, responsibilities, detection of abuse, sanctions against abuse, varying interpretations, comparisons, product variation over time, product variation by location/supplier, exports/imports, information security, covering costs, national or international scope, etc. etc.

  6. I’m interested in this project, too.

But please – don’t use a mailinglist, but a wiki or a bulletin board (or both).

  7. I set up a wiki already and will populate it with content soon. But I think a mailing list is not a bad channel for necessary discussions.
